What kind of damage can it fix?

Scratches, tears, creases, spotting, dust, and general fading are what it handles best - the sort of damage a printed photo picks up in a drawer or an album. It works from the detail that is still there, so a blemish across an otherwise intact face usually comes back cleanly, while an area that has been torn away entirely has to be invented.

Will it colourise a black-and-white photo?

Accepted Answer

Yes, automatically - that is part of what this model does rather than a separate setting. The colours are plausible rather than recovered: nothing in a black-and-white negative records what colour a coat or a wall actually was, so the result is a convincing interpretation, not a historical record.

Is the result my photo, or a new image?

Accepted Answer

It is your photo, rebuilt. The model is generative, so damaged areas are repainted rather than recovered and fine detail can shift - faces, small text, and intricate pattern are worth checking against the original. Keep your original scan; this gives you a restored copy alongside it, never a replacement for it.

What file do I get back?

Accepted Answer

A PNG, whatever you upload. PNG is lossless, so the restored image is not put through a second round of compression on the way to you. A single restored photo downloads on its own; two or more come down together as a ZIP.

How many photos can I do at once?

Accepted Answer

Up to 5 per batch, at 1 credit each. You can run as many batches as you like, one after another.

What happens if a photo fails?

Accepted Answer

You are only charged for photos that come back. Credits are reserved when the job starts and taken when it finishes, so anything that fails on our side is returned to your balance - and a batch where some worked and some did not is charged only for the ones that worked.

Why does this cost credits when so many of your tools are free?

Accepted Answer

Because each photo is processed by an AI model running on someone else's hardware, and that costs us real money per image. Most tools here run entirely inside your browser, cost us nothing to give away, and are free. The handful that send your file to an AI model - this one, Remove Backgrounds, Remove Green Screen and the larger Upscale Images sizes - are the ones that use credits, and every one of them shows the price before you start.

What happens to my photos?

Your uploads and results are stored only as long as the job needs them. The files are deleted four hours after you download them, or within two days if you do not.
